HOWARD TRENSCH
Howard Trensch Biography

 

Howard Trench, Electrician’s Mate Third Class, age twenty-five, was lost in the Pacific, while serving on the 1525-ton submarine, Escolar.

        He entered service on February 6, 1943, and received training with the C.B.’s (Construction Battalion) at Camp Peary, Virginia.

        He transferred to the regular U.S. Navy and was sent to
Vallejo, California, and Mare Island, where he worked on submarines. 

        Howard was stationed at Pearl Harbor where he enjoyed meeting Al Bliss and Gunter Bliss.  On September 13, 1944, he was sent out on combat duty in the Yellow Sea.

        The Government reported heavy enemy fire in that section and the Escolar was reported missing on November 13, 1944.

        Howard received a citation for gallant submarine combat duty, the Submarine Badge with three stars, the Asiatic-Pacific ribbon, the
Victory Medal, and the Purple Heart.
